The Jeep Grand Cherokee has become known as the SUV of choice for drivers who value style and comfort as much as they do performance and off-road capabilities. The 2017 model will do nothing less than cement the Grand Cherokee’s status, as it has beautifully updated styling and three powertrains to choose from.
For the driver who wants it all, there’s nothing like the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Here’s our review of the all-new SUV:
Styling
Jeep went a little throwback with its styling of the new Grand Cherokee, in the best way. With a slimmer grille and boxier shape than last year’s model, 2017 has a classic SUV look that stands out against – and above - all the subcompacts and crossovers on the road. Inside, it has a plush feel and comfortable seating with a convenient layout for maximum space. Additionally, it has 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, and a rear spoiler for aerodynamics.
Features
For your comfort and convenience, the Grand Cherokee has cruise control, electric power steering, rearview camera and rear parking sensors, and a tilting/telescopic steering wheel, climate control, and interior air filtration. Standard entertainment features include a 6-speaker audio system, USB port for connectivity, auxiliary audio input, LCD, and Uconnect for connectivity, navigation and voice controls. Upper trim levels also feature a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with three subwoofers and a Blu-ray entertainment system.
Performance
Buyers can choose between three engine options for the 2017 Grand Cherokee, but even the baseline is impressive and capable of taking on rough terrain. The base model has a 3.6-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and a fuel-saving stop/start system. Next up is a 5.7-liter V8 with 360 horsepower, and then there’s the 3-liter V6 EcoDiesel with 420 lb-ft of torque, which is the most fuel efficient option. Towing capacity on the V6 is 6,200 pounds, while the V8 can tow 7,400 pounds.
Safety
The Grand Cherokee has a history of earning high safety ratings, and Jeep continues the trend with the 2017 model. It earned a perfect 5-Star Overall Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, getting best possible scores in tests for front and side crash.
Safety features on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee include a full suite of airbags, stability and traction control, hill ascent and start assistance, active headrests, rearview camera, and three-point seatbelts. It also comes with standard Bluetooth for connectivity in the case of an emergency. Safety options include parking sensors, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, and automatic high beams. For on- and off-road safety, it has excellent visibility with an expansive windshield and low vision barriers and large, square side mirrors.
