At first glance, the 2016 Jeep Renegade looks like a cartoon brought to life, with its boxy, cushion-cut body and expressive grille. But this crossover SUV is no toy, and in reality, it's stiff competition for other vehicles in its class, with an impressive fuel economy, off-road capabilities, and features you won’t see anywhere else.

So, just what does the 2016 Jeep Renegade offer drivers in Massachusetts? Read on for our full review:

Styling
The Renegade is no wallflower. A decidedly modern Jeep in its styling, it has the traditional 7-slot vertical grille and round headlamps we’ve come to know and love. It comes in a range of colors, from subdued neutrals to vibrant jewel tones, and has a body style that maximizes space while remaining compact. If you want that traditional open feeling of riding in a Jeep, you can opt for the My Sky removable roof panels – a feature no other car in its class offers, and one you’ll be happy you have during trips to the Cape or the mountains.

Features
The Sport model comes standard with AM/FM radio, USB input, and power windows and locks. The Latitude trim adds to that a 5-inch UConnect infotainment system with touch screen, rearview camera, and fog lights. You can also opt for a navigation system, 506-watt Beats audio system with nine speakers, rain-sensing wipers, and dual-zone climate control.
The off-road Trailhawk model comes in all-wheel drive with terrain-select so you can go off-road with confidence. This package also includes extra ground clearance, protective skid plates, and off-road tires.

Engine
The 2016 Jeep Renegade has two engine options. The base engine, standard on Sport and Latitude models, is a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. This engine gets 22 MPG city and 31 MPG highway, which is competitive for the class.

If you’re looking for a little more power, you can choose the Limited or Trailhawk models, which come standard with a 2.4-liter inline-4 with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. This option gets 22 MPG city and 31 MPG highway.

Interior
If you're looking for comfort and space, you've found it. The 2016 Renegade seats five passengers comfortably, with plenty of legroom in the front and rear. Behind the rear seats, there's 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space, and when you fold the rear seats that expand to 50 cubic feet of space.

When you're driving the Renegade, you're perched in a high, comfortable position, with plush seating and 6-way power adjustable seats, and have a virtually uninterrupted view of the road. The center stack and instrument panel were designed to be simple and intuitive, so you're never distracted on the road.

Pricing
Starting at $19,000 MSRP.
