In an SUV-dominated world, it can be hard being a minivan. But not in the case of the all-new Chrysler Pacifica, a refreshed minivan with style, best-in-class safety ratings, and a hybrid option.

If you’re a Newton driver thinking about taking the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica out for a test drive, we’ve got more than a few reasons why you should schedule one today. Here’s our full review:

Safety

The No. 1 thing you should look for in a family vehicle is safety. In which case, the Pacifica is first on the list, as it earned top scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Not many other minivans boast both a Top Safety Pick+ (IIHS) title and a 5-Star Overall Rating (NHTSA), so safety is just another area where the Pacifica is exceptional.

Ever model features a rearview camera, rigid body structure, airbags throughout the cabin, three-point seat belt, child seat anchors and tethers, anti-lock brakes, as well as stability and traction control. Other available options include a 360-degree camera, Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, ParkSense parking assistance tech, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, LaneSense lane departure warning, and a Blind Spot Monitoring System.

Features

Each model of the 2017 Pacifica is equipped with Uconnect entertainment system with 5-inch touchscreen display, USB input, and Bluetooth technology. Additionally, you’ll enjoy heated exterior mirrors, 17-inch aluminum wheels, three-zone climate control, push-button start, keyless entry, and active noise cancellation – an especially valuable feature when you have a sleeping infant on board.

Also available on the 2017 Pacifica is the premium Uconnect system, chrome accents, 20-speaker Harman Kardon audio, Uconnect Theater rear entertainment system, and panoramic sunroof.

Interior

The 2017 Pacifica seats up to eight passengers and has three rows of seating, including the second-row Stow ‘n Go seating, which allows you to fold and slide seats forward to access in-floor storage compartments. (The hybrid model features captain’s chairs in the second row, so Stow ‘n Go is not available on these models.) The Pacifica also features Stow ‘n Vac in-car vacuum that allows you to clean the whole interior with convenience.

Premium interior features include Nappa leather seating, power sliding doors, automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and power-folding third-row seats.

Engine

The all-new Pacific ranked No. 1 in its class for horsepower and No. 2 for fuel economy, according to Kelley Blue Book. While you might not be taking your minivan to the racetracks, power is important during inclement weather.

The base powertrain is a 3.6-liter V6 engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, making 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque while achieving and EPA estimated 18 MPG city and 28 MPG highway.

Meanwhile, the hybrid model has a 3.6-liter V6 engine combined with dual-electric motors with a 16kWh battery. Collectively, this power plant combo is able to produce 260 horsepower and deliver up to 32 MPG. For those shorter trips around Newton, the Pacifica Hybrid has a battery-only range of 33 miles.
