Performance and Off-Road Specs

The 2018 Wrangler JK has three trims: Rubicon, Sahara, and Sport. There are also five special edition trims – the Rubicon Recon, Golden Eagle, Freedom Edition, Willys Wheeler, and Altitude – but those are for another review.

All three trims have a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, with the option for a 5-speed automatic. The powertrain makes 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and four-door models equipped with the Max Tow Package can haul up to 3,500 pounds. Two-door models with the Trailer Tow Group can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

The Rubicon features the Rock-Trac 4X4 system, Tru-Lok front and rear locking differentials, front sway bar disconnect system, Dana 44 heavy-duty axles, and a performance suspension system with high-pressure monotube shocks and tunable valves. The Sahara and Sport trims have the Command-Trac 4X4 system, Dana 44 heavy-duty rear axles, Dana 30 front axles. These features make the Rubicon ideal for rocky and mountainous terrain, while the Sport and Sahara are ideal for off-roading and traveling in the snow, sleet, and mud.

Styling and Accessories

The Wrangler JK Sport comes equipped with halogen headlamps and fog lamps, a Sunrider Soft Top, full-framed removable doors, Fold and Tumble removable rear bench, and a wash-out interior with removable carpet and drain plugs – a must in muddy territory. It’s available with deep tinted glass, side steps, removable half doors with plastic windows, a Freedom Top Black three-piece modular hard top, or Premium Black Sunrider Soft Top.

The Sahara trim features front and rear painted bumper accents, embroidered seating, side steps, Sunrider Soft Top, full-framed removable doors, fine silver metallic grilled throats and headlamp rings, Fold and Tumble rear seats, and a wash-out interior. Available features include a Premium Black Sunrider Soft Top (with full-framed doors only), a body-color hard top, or a Freedom Top Black three-piece modular hard top.

The Wrangler JK Rubicon has rock rails, a Sunrider soft top, full-framed removable doors, Fold and Tumble Rear Seats, and a wash-out interior. Available styling features are the same as the Sahara trim, plus soft tops have the option for removable half doors.

Entertainment and Premium Features

You'll want some tunes to enhance the Jeep experience, so the Wrangler JK comes available with Sirius XM Radio, an Alpine Premium Sound System with 9 speakers and subwoofer, Radio 430 with USB and auxiliary input, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen display.

Additionally, the 2018 Wrangler is available with heated front seats, a Remote Start System, automatic temperature control, leather seating, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated power side mirrors.
